So this quarter went REALLY fast. It felt like only a couple weeks, which it was 9 total weeks. There of course was summer which went pretty smoothly. I visited family in the mainland and it was fun. The first week, Leadership helped out with registration. For me, that was my first week because I was still on vacation. The second week we started blended learning. It was okay and we were all pretty busy. Everyone stayed in their homeroom(I was group A). The third week, it turns out, they decided we needed to do distance learning. At first it was SUPER CONFUSING and I had no idea what was happening. But by the second week I got it down. Through out this quarter we did a lot of leadership assignments. Assignments we had were all our blogs including our Summer blog, Weekly blogs, Assignment blogs, and this one. We also started doing club ideas. My idea for a club was obviously a book club lol. And then we narrowed it down to 3 clubs.. mine was among them! And of course, there was the Biocube. So far everyone has presented 3 sides so far; the Background, the Quote, and the Obstacle. We just finished working on the minibiocube. I have to finish it earlier because I am not going to be able to come back to school for quarter 2 for the first week for leadership(yes I know a lot of "for's" sry). Overall, I'd say the quarter went pretty smoothly at the end for distance learning.
I'm going to have a long list of highlights and lowlights so I will be making bullet points. HIGHLIGHTS:
- Having a fun summer with my family
- Hanging out with leadership friends during registration
- Visiting San Diego to see my cousins for a month
- Getting Boba constantly
- Not having to get up so early for school because of the time change
- Most Leadership assignments(some of them are actually fun you know!)
- Of course READING!
- Watching Netflix a lot
- Presenting assignments was fun, like the Biocube because afterwards I felt pretty proud of myself since I did better than last year
- Doing runs every morning was fun too.
LOWLIGHTS:
- Distance Learning
- Getting headaches a lot from staring at a screen
- While the time change can be a bonus it can also be a setback. School would start at 11:00am which is good, but would end at 5:00pm
- I-Ready was kind of tiring, especially on Fridays where I had to do it 2 hours straight which is one of the things that gave me headaches
The lesson learned for this quarter is to persevere though tough times. I learned this lesson when I was doing distance learning. It was really hard for me at first because the google meets were really new to me and I didn't know completely how it worked. Google class was confusing for me too, we used it last year but not even close to how much we are using it now.
So for each of my classes, things went differently. Leadership: I have an A for this class. I have new assignments daily and they are pretty fun and worthwhile. We don't spend as much time on google meets because we mainly just are there for announcements, but for all the work most of it is online so about 2 hours a day for that class. I would say, above all the other classes I have, I am learning the most in this one. And, as said above, the teacher in this class is probably the most prepared of all my teachers because he always has an assignment ready and it's always feels like the whole year is planned when it comes to Mr. Ing. Communication for this class(as said again and again) is better than my other classes since we have 3(or could be 4) messaging platforms we use to keep in touch. English: I have a B in this class😶. So I think English is probably one of my weakest subjects, which is SO IRONIC since I'm literally a reading stereotype lol. I would say our assignments are worthwhile. Each class we read together the book The Giver and have comprehension questions at the end of each class. I'd say we spend about 2 hours online for this class. Even though the class is prepared, the teacher is prepared, I'm not really learning much more than what I already know. The teacher is prepared pretty well and always has a quiz at the end of class so thats good. So while she says that she is aways on top of reading our emails, she never reads mine. Like one time I tried emailing her to ask for help since I don't have an A for this class, and she never replied lol. Science: I have an A for this class. I would say the assignments are worthwhile, but THEY ARE HARD. Not like I can't do them at all, but it takes me so long to understand them. I think this might be because we are getting all of our assignments on stemscopes, which is a learning platform that has all assignments already made; this is probably why because he didn't make them and somebody else did so we always have no idea what going on. He does do the assignments with us, but 50% of the time I don't know hat going on. I would say I spend about 2 hours online for Science. I'm not learning as much as I would have expected to, but nevertheless still learning some. I would say the teacher is prepared, but more for 9th graders. If there is one thing that exceeds all others for this class, it is communication. He is on top of it 100% especially since he uses Google Hangouts. Media: I have an A in this class. We always have very interesting assignments. I'd say we spend about 3 hours cuz it's MEDIA. I'm learning a lot about Media, very different things too. From photography to storytelling to book covers lol. I would say Mr. Telles is pretty prepared because he always had google forms for us and crazy long docs for us to fill out. Communication is pretty good; whenever I write an email, he replies asap. Math: I have an A in this class(surprisingly). So I've made it pretty clear in the past that Math is not my thing, but if I was a super-math-geek, this is how I would answer these questions. The work is a little more than decent. I get a reasonable amount of math class/homework, not a LOT. I am spending about 2 hours online for this class. I'd say I am learning a decent amount, but some of it is kinda last year tho, like we still need to put positive signs in front of numbers *sighhh. I would say that the teacher is pretty well prepared because we always have lessons ready that DO NOT look like they've been quickly created by the last minute. I would say that communication so far is pretty good and my emails are getting replied fast. Social Studies: I have an A in this class. We only have homework when necessary which is pretty good so far. The classwork tho is decent. I'm spending about 2 hours for this class online. I'd say that I'm learning an awful lot about government branches and it is pretty interesting. Ms. Mazz(Now going my Mrs. Bronk) is pretty prepared as a social studies teacher. For every class she always has a slide ready lol. And as for the communication, I'd say it's pretty decent.(yeah, I know gotta stop using "I'd say","I would say", and "decent" sorry!)Anyhoo, that's all for the classes.
