Hi guys! So if you don’t know, I couldn’t do much school this week because I have been in Florida with my Grandmother. So that’s why this blog might be a little short. So Sunday we got on planes to go to Florida. It was VERY exhausting and we had two flights to get from Orange County, California(where I was at the time) to Washington D.C to Orange County, Florida(confusing right?). So the first flight was 5. FREAKING. HOURS. Ughhh I HATE flying and I am not really good with turbulence... The second flight was 2 hours (okay with all things considered) and after that we met up with my Grandma at a hotel. We stayed at the hotel all throughout the week from Sunday night to Thursday morning. Monday we just chilled at the hotel. Tuesday we went to the pool and on some boats. Wednesday we went to this really cool lake place. Half the time I was freaking out for multiple reasons. One, Florida is know for giant eating, super sketchy, sharp-toothed ALLIGATORS. That means the entire time I was paranoid about creepy alligators watching us. Two, we swam for about .75 miles AGAINST A STRONG CURRENT. Three, we got to the main place and there was a GIANT HOLE IN THE LAKE-GROUND THAT PEOPLE SWAM IN. Four, my dad and brother told me this freaky story for no reason that involved dead scuba divers in the freaky lake hole so I was scared to swim in the water. Five, I had to swim all the way back. But if you don’t know this about me, taking risks is pretty thrilling for me, so I did all of that and was scared to the bone. And finally Thursday, we left in the morning to go on two more torturous flights.
Okay doin have one highlight and one lowlight. Let’s start with the highlight. So we got to do a lot of fun(/scary) stuff this week (read above). Yeah that’s the highlight. But it was kind of all dragged down by this one lowlight. So the whole entire point of coming to Florida was to have quality time with my grandma but what really upset all of us(Dad, me, and my brother) was that she was making no effort to bond with us. I don’t know my grandma really well and we came all that way just to see her and she didn’t make any attempts to be with us. She just spent day after day in her room watching YouTube and sleeping all day. Don’t get me wrong, I know grandmas kind of do that and I know that I shouldn’t expect much of her since she is elderly but we were really discouraged about that. For example one day we said, “Grandma, do you want to play mini golf with us?” or “Grandma, do you want to go to the pool with us?” or “Grandma we’re going to this super sketchy-adrenaline-pumping-lake that has a giant hole in the bottom of the ground that may or may not have dead scuba diver bodies in it. Wanna come?” But she would just say stuff like “I’m sorry but I can’t today I don’t feel good and I think I’m going to lie down” or “Maybe not today I’m going to watch this show” or “Sorry guys I don’t think that would be fun for me”. So yeah we were really discouraged that she wasn’t making any effort to be with us.
The lesson for this week is to not let discouraging things drag you down. While I could not enjoy time with my Grandma, I spent time with my Dad who I rarely get to see and my Dads girlfriend who is the best.
