Hey yall! So I chose to make this a special edition blog - well. . . kinda. I dunno, but something happened today. Something changed my whole week. A change that had happened at the last second. Approximately 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 57 seconds ago, I was back in the water surfing. Now you may be confused - doesn't most everyone surf in Hawaii? Well I used to. Long story, but now I'm back and it feels good. After an accident I was scared to surf again. Like every wave that came, even if it was a freaking ripple, I'd scream bloody murder and thought that I was going to drown. LOL, now that sounds insane. I am back, and I LOVE it. Now you may be wondering, how does this have to do with Leadership? Well, isn't Leadership all about helping you overcome challenges, help you complete tasks, and overall, just prepare you for life? And me being able to surf again brought back my confidence and I had overcome, even if a small challenge, nevertheless a fear that had been consuming me for years. Now, onto the real summary LOL. Monday, we didn't have any school, but I'm pretty sure I just stayed home and slept all day. I think at one point I worked on my video, but that was it. Tuesday, we had odds and was the first real start of the week. We also had like a Taco Tuesday thing with our neighbors. Also, have I told you I LOVE Carne Asada?? Anyhoo, Wednesday we had evens. Nothing much that day except finishing up my video and also trying to get it on my slides. It was so FRUSTRATING. I worked all day to get it on but idk if it needs to be imported or WHAT but it just didn't go on my slides. Thursday I FINALLY got it on. . . but it just did not play for me! It worked for Mr. Ing but not for me :( . Friday, I went to my usual evens classes, planned the discussion for the Book Club, and of course, what I had been RAMBLING about above, I surfed 😌.
A highlight this week is of course reading. Another highlight is the Book Club. The meetings with the Book Club members are so FREEING! I love it because you know those google meets or zooms you go to and you like don't un-mute yourself or you keep your camera off and your kinda like shy n stuff? Thats the opposite in the Book Club space. We could just talk and talk and it's almost soothing. We don't just talk about the book, we talk about our lives and it's probably my favorite part of the day. And obviously my last highlight is surfing, as seen above LOL. Now, my lowlights. I think I only have one and that's the stress from the "My Hero" video.
My lesson: Learn to let go. Now this was a tricky lesson for me to learn. Of course, I already knew I had to let go, but I was too scared to. It was only today, after 3 years I finally did. This occurred during surfing. For years, I was living in fear of the water when all along, I should have let the water into my life instead of push it away. So, I let go of my fear. But of course, this lesson can vary to MANY different scenarios. From parents not wanting their little ones to grow up and leave them, to people to scared to try something new. You know, if I could say something to these people, I would say, "I know letting go is hard, but in the end, it is always better than pushing it away."

I found your surfing story very intriguing! What you found out about yourself was very insightful... “living in fear of the water when all along, I should have let the water into my life instead of push it away “
ReplyDeleteIt’s a common strategy we humans use in life to avoid pain...when what ends up happening is we stop living fully alive!
I love your writing!!
